SAFEFOD

The “Societé Africaine d’Education et de Formation pour le Développement / African Society of Education and Training for Development” (SAFEFOD) aims at assisting the state, local governments and grass-root communities to face the major challenges constituting impediments to good governance. SAFEFOD, has also developed a software as part of the International Development Research Centre’s Acacia Initiative, funded by IDRC, which is used in budget management and thus helps local elected officials to plan, execute, and manage the finances of their communities, and to prepare financial statements. This application permits real-time entry of accounting data. And at the end of each budget cycle, it readily compiles a municipality’s various financial reports. Two other software were developed in the same program: a registry system software and a credit and savings software. The institution has also organized an initial devolution session on lab results for members of the ICTs and Governance Group of the Acacia Initiative in Senegal. It also acts as a local governance observatory, which works to disseminate information on decentralization through national languages .
